Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, SAMBUOYANT, which had been fractious when being saddled, was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He said the horse was trotted up and after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. On jumping, DEVIL MOON and JOLLY GOOD FORTUNE bumped. SAMBUOYANT began awkwardly and lost ground. KINGSTON WINNER began awkwardly, causing D Whyte, its rider, to become unbalanced. KROVANH began awkwardly. After the 400 Metres, DEVIL MOON was shifted to the inside of AMBITIOUS TYCOON into clear running. In the early part of the Straight, AMBITIOUS TYCOON hung out. Near the 100 Metres, DEVIL MOON was crowded for room when improving into a narrow run between KROVANH and JOLLY GOOD FORTUNE. Also near the 100 Metres, KINGSTON WINNER was steadied away from the heels of BEST LUCK which shifted in. Over the concluding stages, BEST LUCK hung in. R Fradd (HAIL THE STORM) said on straightening he commenced to shift out to follow RICE FIELD and KINGSTON WINNER as in his opinion they were the two horses that would continue on in the race. He said he was momentarily awkwardly placed behind them, however, he obtained clear running when BEST LUCK went forward of him on his outside. He said after this HAIL THE STORM only finished the race off fairly. He said throughout the race HAIL THE STORM did not appear comfortable on today's track conditions and in the middle stages changed legs on numerous occasions. HAIL THE STORM was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of HAIL THE STORM after the race did not show any significant findings. A Delpech (GROOM RAIDER) said the horse in the past had shown itself to be difficult to settle. He said racing in a visor for the first time today he had discussed with Mr B K Ng, trainer of the horse, in the Parade Ring before the race that if the horse were ridden to go forward it might prove difficult to settle and consequently not finish the race off. He did say GROOM RAIDER had trialed wearing a visor, was ridden quietly and trialed nicely, it was therefore decided to try and ride the horse from a wide barrier quietly in the early stages and provide it with cover in an attempt to ensure it settled. He said after going back in the early stages GROOM RAIDER over-raced and would not relax for him. He said as a consequence of this the horse failed to close the race off today. A Delpech said following the race he advised Mr Ng to either reduce the distance of the races in which GROOM RAIDER was running or otherwise consider removing the visor from the horse's gear in the hope that it would settle better. GROOM RAIDER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GROOM RAIDER after the race did not show any significant findings. BEST LUCK and JOLLY GOOD FORTUNE were sent for sampling.
