Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, SOUND OF SILENCE was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. The horse was trotted up and after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. KAO AND MING was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was checked away from the heels of SOUND OF SILENCE which shifted in. NEW TAMAR was slow to begin. CONSTELLATION bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. KING OF SPADES was slow to muster speed and in the early stages was detached from the field. Near the 1000 Metres, GOLDEN STRIDE was steadied away from the heels of DANSKE VERY MUCH which got its head on the side and shifted in away from SOUND OF SILENCE. At the 800 Metres, DANSKE VERY MUCH, which was racing with its head up, was steadied away from the heels of SOUND OF SILENCE. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, FAIRPLAY hung out. After the 200 Metres, SOUND OF SILENCE was steadied when crowded for room by WIN FORTUNE (Apprentice K W Tsui) which when being ridden out shifted in. Having in mind Apprentice Tsui's relative inexperience, the Stewards considered it appropriate that he be severely reprimanded and he was told in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount sooner that he did on this occasion. In the Straight, SOUTH CHINA NINETY hung out. Mr B K Ng, trainer of WIN FORTUNE, first placegetter, explained after the horse raced in October it was decided to give the horse a break as it was not performing well. He said WIN FORTUNE resumed on 26 January 2005 and ran satisfactorily in a weaker race than tonight, however, subsequent to that race WIN FORTUNE was somewhat stiff in its action and it was therefore decided to again spell the horse. He said WIN FORTUNE had been working well leading into tonight's race and was expected to perform accordingly, however, to win was somewhat unexpected. Mr Ng said he had advised the connections of WIN FORTUNE that in his opinion the horse was a sound place chance. He further explained he utilised the services of Apprentice K W Tsui as his allocated Apprentice K H Chan who had been riding the horse in its lead up track work was unable to make the horse's weight tonight. O Chavez (DANSKE VERY MUCH) said the intention had been to lead with the horse if possible. He said DANSKE VERY MUCH began satisfactorily, he then rode along in an endeavour to shift to the fence in the lead, however, SOUND OF SILENCE which had drawn outside him showed superior pace and commenced to gradually shift in. He said he was reluctant to take hold of DANSKE VERY MUCH as in the past the horse had shown itself to have a light mouth and race keenly when being hard ridden, he therefore endeavoured to gradually let DANSKE VERY MUCH come back to allow SOUND OF SILENCE to cross. He said DANSKE VERY MUCH did not show enough natural speed to persevere attempting to hold SOUND OF SILENCE to his outside. He said once crossed by SOUND OF SILENCE near the 800 Metres DANSKE VERY MUCH dropped the bit and did not respond to his riding and was most disappointing. DANSKE VERY MUCH was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of DANSKE VERY MUCH after the race did not show any significant findings. WIN FORTUNE and SOUND OF SILENCE were sent for sampling.
