Racing Incident Report

OLIVE OR TWIST, HAPPY WINNING and OPERATION HUMOUR were slow to begin. AMERICAN VICTORY began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped MAGNIFICENT. NICKU NICKU began awkwardly and got its head up. Shortly after the start, OPERATION HUMOUR was steadied when crowded for room between DESERT STORM and LASER GLORY, both of which shifted ground. Near the 1200 Metres, LASER GLORY, which was being ridden along, was steadied to avoid the heels of AFRICAN FOREST (Apprentice C K Tong) which shifted in when not properly clear. Apprentice Tong was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care. After the 400 Metres, Apprentice C K Tong lost the use of his right stirrup for a short distance. At the 400 Metres, NICKU NICKU was steadied and shifted to the outside of OPERATION HUMOUR. Near the 200 Metres, DESERT STORM was steadied and shifted to the outside of TREASURE RAIDERS to continue going forward. After the 100 Metres, HAPPY WINNING was bumped by DESERT STORM which was carried out by DARTER. Over the concluding stages, HEALTHY FRUITS got its head on the side and shifted ground while hanging out. S Dye (TREASURE RAIDERS) said the intention had been to ride the horse behind midfield as is usual. He said TREASURE RAIDERS tonight began well, he did not ride along and the horse immediately travelled into the bridle. He said after travelling a short distance he attempted to steady TREASURE RAIDERS, however, the horse got its head up and would not come back underneath him. He said as a consequence TREASURE RAIDERS travelled further forward than was intended. He said in the Straight TREASURE RAIDERS got its head on the side, shifted out towards the heels of DARTER and was reluctant through inexperience to improve into a run on the inside of DARTER and outside AFRICAN FOREST. When questioned, B Prebble (AMERICAN VICTORY) said in the past the horse had shown itself to be difficult to control if ridden along. He said tonight he was instructed from a wide barrier if possible to obtain a position midfield but with cover. He said after AMERICAN VICTORY began only fairly and bumped the runner drawn to his outside he was then reluctant to ride along as he believed the horse might commence to over-race and hang out as it had in the past. He said because of this he allowed AMERICAN VICTORY to shift across behind runners and race further back than was intended. ELETTARIN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ELETTARIN after the race did not show any significant findings. DESERT STORM and TREASURE RAIDERS were sent for sampling. After the race, an endoscopic examination was performed on DARTER at the request of Trainer J Size. The Veterinary Surgeon reported this examination showed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, DARTER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 5 May 2005)
ELETTARIN, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. ELETTARIN was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C S Shum this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, ELETTARIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
