Racing Incident Report

NAUGHTY BOY was a little slow to begin and then shortly afterwards was steadied when crowded for room between CHAMP DE UNION and FANTASTICO which shifted in after making contact with GLORY YEARS. WISE LOVER and CHOICE AND CHANCE were slow to begin. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, ACE KING hung out. When questioned regarding the poor performance of GOLDEN WIN, S Dye said after beginning well he went forward with the intention to lead. He said near the 800 Metres he had one length advantage on CHAMP DE UNION, however, that horse was ridden along to maintain a position on his inside. He said he therefore persevered going forward in an attempt to clear CHAMP DE UNION, however, when he was not able to do so he elected after the 600 Metres to take a sit off CHAMP DE UNION. He said because of the pace of the early stages GOLDEN WIN which was first up tonight for 6 months was unable to finish the race off. The explanation submitted by S Dye was accepted. GOLDEN WIN was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of GOLDEN WIN after the race did not show any significant findings. GLORY YEARS and SUPER BALL were sent for sampling. After the race, the Clerk of the Scales reported M Rodd, the rider of ACE KING, weighed in 2 lbs over his declared weight. It was established that after weighing out M Rodd had a drink of water and in addition the girth with which he had weighed out had been changed by the stable of Mr J Size, trainer of the horse. The change of the girth on ACE KING had been reported to an official prior to the horse leaving the Parade Ring before the race. In the circumstances, the Stewards were satisfied that the overweight was as a result of a combination of the two incidents, neither of which by itself would have resulted in M Rodd being overweight on return to scale. It was decided neither M Rodd nor Mr Size should be penalised, however, they were advised that such incident should not occur in the future.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 23 June 2005)
ACE KING was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon at the stables of Trainer J Size this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have sustained a laceration to the left front leg. ACE KING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
