Racing Incident Report

Shortly after the start, RISING WIN blundered after being bumped by TRIUMPH. After the 1500 Metres, CLASSA VICTORY was steadied when crowded for room between RISING WIN and FANTASTIC WIN. Near the 1300 Metres, SPECIFIC SORCEROR became unbalanced when bumped by ELFHELM. RISING WIN made the turn near the 1000 Metres awkwardly and got its head up. After the 250 Metres, Y T Cheng (SPARKLE) dropped his whip. Near the 200 Metres, RISING WIN was steadied and shifted to the outside of SPECIFIC SORCEROR to obtain clear running. W M Lai (LEGIONNAIRE) explained he had been instructed to endeavour to ride the horse with cover. He said in accordance with those instructions after beginning well he shortly after the start steadied LEGIONNAIRE in an attempt to obtain a position with cover behind ELFHELM. He said ELFHELM was able to shift in to a two wide position and race outside LIAOBUQI and consequently LEGIONNAIRE travelled three wide and without cover. Mr C H Yip, trainer of LEGIONNAIRE, confirmed the instructions issued to W M Lai and said he had hoped the horse would travel in 4th or 5th position. He said in the past LEGIONNAIRE had proved itself difficult to settle when racing without cover. Mr Yip did say that the intention with LEGIONNAIRE in its upcoming races will be to have the horse ridden with cover if possible in 4th or 5th position. LEGIONNAIRE was sent for an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of LEGIONNAIRE after the race did not show any significant findings. R Fradd (SUPER FIGHTER) said the intention had been to ride the horse quietly tonight. He said he had ridden SUPER FIGHTER in a recent trial from a rearward position and the horse was able to close off strongly. He said therefore from a wide barrier it was decided to ride the horse in this manner which would give it the best chance. He said in the middle stages SUPER FIGHTER proved somewhat difficult to settle and failed to close the race off as he had hoped. He said he believed this was due to the pace of the race and the fact that the field did not spread out. Mr T W Leung, trainer of SUPER FIGHTER, confirmed the instructions issued to R Fradd and said when ridden more prominently last season SUPER FIGHTER had drawn more favourably. SUPER FIGHTER was sent for an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of SUPER FIGHTER after the race did not show any significant findings. CLASSA VICTORY was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of CLASSA VICTORY after the race did not show any significant findings. LIAOBUQI and TRIUMPH were sent for sampling.
