Racing Incident Report

GREEN IN BLUE began awkwardly. Near the 1600 Metres, NOBLE CHAMPION got its head up and lost ground when awkwardly placed between COURAGEOUSHEART which had been ridden along to improve on its inside and FIREWHEEL which shifted in slightly. After this near the 1300 Metres, NOBLE CHAMPION was again steadied and lost ground when crowded for room between VICTORY TREASURE and COURAGEOUSHEART which momentarily shifted out. Because of these incidents, SUMMERVILLE POWER, which was following NOBLE CHAMPION, lost ground and was carried back through the field to be near the rear. Near the 1000 Metres, VICTORY TREASURE and GALLANT FALCON were carried wider by COURAGEOUSHEART (E Saint-Martin) which shifted out from behind TRIUMPH. As a result of COURAGEOUSHEART shifting, crowding was caused to VICTORY TREASURE. E Saint-Martin was severely reprimanded and told his riding on this occasion bordered on placing him in breach of a serious Rule. In the early part of the Straight, VICTORY TREASURE hung in. For some distance after the 300 Metres, NOBLE CHAMPION was shifted wider on the course to obtain clear running. After the 300 Metres, DASH AHEAD was momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of COURAGEOUSHEART which shifted to the inside of KIDDY SING to go forward. Approaching and passing the 100 Metres, SUMMERVILLE POWER, which was closing the race off strongly, was steadied when unable to continue improving between KIDDY SING and COURAGEOUSHEART. Throughout the race, GALLANT FALCON raced wide and without cover. SYLLABUS and COURAGEOUSHEART were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported NOBLE CHAMPION had sustained a laceration to the left hind heel and TRIUMPH had sustained a laceration over the left hind tendon area. Before being allowed to race again, TRIUMPH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Following the race, the Veterinary Officer also reported an endoscopic examination was conducted on FIREWHEEL at the request of Trainer P O'Sullivan. He said this examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, FIREWHEEL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
