Racing Incident Report

As the gates opened, AURELIAN put its head down, lost a little ground and was then severely checked when crowded for room between SNIPER which shifted out and FOREVER WIN which on jumping got its head up and shifted in abruptly. SUNDAY DELIGHT was slow to begin and lost a considerable amount of ground. SPECIFIC SORCEROR began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 1600 Metres, FOREVER WIN, which commenced to improve between AURELIAN and WINWIN COMBO, was checked when crowded for room as a result of WINWIN COMBO being carried in by SNIPER which itself was endeavouring to improve towards the inside of DOUBLE PLEASURE. In this incident, SNIPER was checked and shifted out to relieve the crowding. No action was taken. Near the 250 Metres, DORDENMA was crowded for room inside DRAGON STRIDE (Apprentice C W Wong) which got its head on the side and shifted in. Apprentice Wong stopped riding and straightened his mount. A Delpech (FORTUNE GOLD) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of PURPLE GOLD causing that horse, which was hanging in, to lose its rightful running and be checked. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for A Delpech's licence to ride in races be suspended until Monday 2 January 2006 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension is to take immediate effect. In addition, A Delpech was fined $80,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 2 further racedays. Throughout the race, SEA TREASURE raced wide and without cover. Whilst it did not affect the finishing position of DRAGON STRIDE, 2nd placegetter, Apprentice C W Wong was severely reprimanded for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race at least hands and heels. S Sanders (FOREVER WIN) said from a wide barrier he had been instructed to miss the start slightly, immediately shift across behind and then try to improve his position along the fence to travel around midfield. He said FOREVER WIN jumped better than he had anticipated and as a result of him trying to miss the start it jumped into the bit and consequently got its head up. He said after this he shifted in, however, a number of runners maintained their position to his inside and as a consequence he was not able to immediately find the fence and improve his position, resulting in him racing near the rear. He said approaching the Home Turn he did consider shifting away from the fence when following SUNDAY DELIGHT to a position behind AURELIAN which at this time was commencing to improve, however, in his opinion FOREVER WIN was not travelling well enough to do so. He said in the Straight he rode FOREVER WIN along hands and heels, the horse did not respond and near the 200 Metres when hit with the whip failed to quicken. FOREVER WIN and SUNDAY DELIGHT were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, FOREVER WIN was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, FOREVER WIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of SUNDAY DELIGHT after the race did not show any significant findings. DORDENMA and DRAGON STRIDE were sent for sampling.
