Racing Incident Report
BAUHINIA was withdrawn on 28.2.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SNIPER (B Prebble). Before being allowed to race again, BAUHINIA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Whilst parading behind the barrier, BROWN BEAUTY lost its left front plate. This plate was replaced. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. NOBLE BOSS was slow to begin. As the gates opened, MAIN ATTRACTION lifted its front feet off the ground, then began awkwardly and as a consequence lost ground. From a wide barrier, KIDDY SING was taken across behind runners. SPECTACULAR HIT was slow to begin and then shortly afterwards was steadied away from the heels of SOARING ANGEL which shifted out. At the 1600 Metres, SNIPER was steadied away from the heels of ELEPHANT DANCE. Making the Home Turn, DURABLE became unbalanced when awkwardly placed inside the hindquarters of NATURAL ECHO which at this time commenced to give ground. In the early part of the Straight, ELEPHANT DANCE and NOBLE BOSS raced tight due mainly to NOBLE BOSS hanging in. At the 100 Metres, H K Yim (SOARING ANGEL) dropped his whip. Over the concluding stages, DURABLE raced close to the heels of BROWN BEAUTY and because of this was not ridden out to the end of the race. For the major part of the race, BROWN BEAUTY travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, C Soumillon (NATURAL ECHO) said at the hors's most recent start it travelled wide and without cover when beaten by a small margin. He said because of this from a wide draw again tonight he rode the horse positively in the early stages in the hope that he would be able to obtain cover somewhere in a forward position. He said when ELEPHANT DANCE steadied at the 2000 Metres to obtain cover itself, he was left racing in a three wide position and continued to do so until near the 1600 Metres. He said at this time SOARING ANGEL went forward and he shifted across into a two wide position. He said the pace of the race then steadied, NATURAL ECHO travelled comfortably, however, after straightening did not respond to his riding and was disappointing. NATURAL ECHO was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, NATURAL ECHO was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the left hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, NATURAL ECHO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DURABLE, SNIPER and ELEPHANT DANCE were sent for sampling.
