Racing Incident Report

SUPER BALL was slow to begin, then on jumping bounded in the air and as a consequence travelled in a rearward position. Near the 900 Metres, BEST POWER was steadied away from the heels of GALLANT FALCON which at this time was steadied away from the heels of CELEBRATION. At the 500 Metres, SUPER BALL was bumped by BEST POWER which shifted out. At the 250 Metres, BEST POWER hung in. In the Straight, SPARKLING STAR hung in. E Saint-Martin (CAPITALAND) said he had been instructed to ride the horse in last position as is usual. He said no specific mention had been made on whether he should make his finishing run on the inside or outside of runners. He said CAPITALAND travelled a little keenly in the early stages, however, relaxed running along the Back Straight. He said at that time he was travelling on the rail inside the heels of BRILLIANT FLASH and for him to have shifted wider on the track would have required him to steady and then shift to a three wide position. He said he made the Home Turn on the rail and at all times in the Straight had clear running, however, CAPITALAND did not stretch out as he thought it ought and felt stiff in its action, failed to make ground and was disappointing. He said following the race CAPITALAND stumbled. F Coetzee (BRILLIANT FLASH) explained he intended to ride the horse around midfield, however, after being slow to begin BRILLIANT FLASH travelled further back than was anticipated. He said the manner in which the race was run made it difficult for horses back in the field to make ground in the Home Straight and in his opinion this had a bearing on the poor performance of BRILLIANT FLASH. CAPITALAND and BRILLIANT FLASH were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CAPITALAND and BRILLIANT FLASH after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, CAPITALAND and BRILLIANT FLASH will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SUPER HONEY and DIAMOND ERA were sent for sampling.
