Racing Incident Report

LOK WAH TREASURE bounded in the air at the start, shifted in and bumped DURABLE. SOARING ANGEL was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, JOY AND TREASURE was crowded for room between WE'RE BUDDIES which was carried out slightly by SOARING ANGEL and GIDDY KIPPER which got its head on the side and shifted in. At the 1600 Metres, WE'RE BUDDIES was steadied away from the heels of SOARING ANGEL which shifted out. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, JOY AND TREASURE and DASH FOR VICTORIES became unbalanced after bumping when racing tight inside SOARING ANGEL. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, METRO LEADER proved difficult to settle when being steadied away from the heels of DURABLE as the tempo of the race slackened. Near the 1300 Metres, JOY AND TREASURE was checked when crowded for room between SOARING ANGEL and METRO LEADER (W M Lai) which when continuing to prove difficult to settle shifted out away from the heels of DURABLE. W M Lai was told whilst the tempo of the race did steady at this stage, he is to ensure he does his utmost to protect his fellow riders. WE'RE BUDDIES, which was following JOY AND TREASURE, was steadied and shifted out away from that horse and bumped GIDDY KIPPER. Near the 1100 Metres, LOK WAH TREASURE was checked to avoid the heels of DASH FOR VICTORIES when attempting to shift to the outside of that runner while racing tight inside WE'RE BUDDIES. At the 1000 Metres, JOY AND TREASURE was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SOARING ANGEL. Consideration was given to a protest/objection lodged by S Dye (DURABLE), 4th placegetter, against METRO LEADER (W M Lai) being declared 3rd placegetter for alleged interference near the 600 Metres. The evidence disclosed that near the 600 Metres DURABLE was checked when crowded for room inside METRO LEADER which after having initially been steadied away from the heels of JOY AND TREASURE was shifted in when not properly clear, then shifted in further of its own accord. As the Stewards were of the opinion JOY AND TREASURE had contributed to this incident, the protest/objection was overruled and the Judge's placings as semaphored were confirmed. WE'RE BUDDIES, which was following DURABLE, was checked to avoid the heels of that horse, shifted out and inconvenienced LOK WAH TREASURE. Also DASH FOR VICTORIES, which was following, was checked in consequence. Near the 200 Metres, WE'RE BUDDIES was momentarily steadied and shifted out away from the heels of KID GALAXY. For the major part of the race, SOARING ANGEL travelled wide and without cover. Throughout the race, HONG KONG GEM travelled wide and without cover. B Prebble (GIDDY KIPPER) explained in the early stages the horse did not stride out as he felt it should, however, he was able to obtain a position with cover three wide turning into the Back Straight. He said GIDDY KIPPER momentarily travelled well after the 600 Metres, however, when asked for an effort near the 500 Metres failed to respond to his riding. He was unable to offer any explanation for the performance of the horse. GIDDY KIPPER and SOARING ANGEL were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GIDDY KIPPER and SOARING ANGEL after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, GIDDY KIPPER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. JOY AND TREASURE, HAPPY ALL AROUND and TO SIR WITH LOVE were sent for sampling.
