Racing Incident Report

ENTERTAINING, Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 22.4.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore). Before being allowed to race again, ENTERTAINING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After arriving at the Start, it was noted A PLUS FIT had lost its left front plate. A PLUS FIT was re-plated and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. As the start was effected, DONGGUAN VICTORY lunged forward and made contact with the front gates of its stall, causing these gates to open momentarily before the others. As the gates opened, SEVENS HEAVEN, which had been fractious in its stall, reared, then on several occasions bounded in the air and as a consequence lost a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, SEVENS HEAVEN will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. PACIFIC ALLIANCE and GREAT FORTUNE were slow to begin. After the 1600 Metres, A PLUS FIT was checked to avoid the heels of X-SPEED (Apprentice K L Chui) which when being steadied shifted in whilst not clear. Apprentice Chui was severely reprimanded and told to ensure he is properly clear of other runners before shifting ground. In the early stages, HIGH PRICE when racing wide and without cover proved difficult to settle. On straightening, GREAT FORTUNE was steadied and shifted to the inside of FABULOUS TREASURE to obtain clear running. Near the 300 Metres, Apprentice K L Chui dropped his whip. Approaching and passing the 300 Metres, PACIFIC ALLIANCE was held up and unable to improve between DONGGUAN VICTORY and TELECOM TYCOON. After the 300 Metres, PACIFIC ALLIANCE was shifted out to go forward. Throughout the race, AURELIAN, which had been intended to be ridden forward, travelled wide and without cover. The performances of FABULOUS TREASURE and X-SPEED, which tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FABULOUS TREASURE and X-SPEED will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. O Doleuze (JADE DRAGONFLY) said he had been instructed from a wide barrier to ride the horse with cover. He said JADE DRAGONFLY jumped awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of NOBLE ZOOM, after this he shifted across behind runners to avoid being caught wide albeit in a rearward position. He said near the 1400 Metres JADE DRAGONFLY was steadied away from the heels of HIGH PRICE which at this time was racing ungenerously on his outside. He said after this JADE DRAGONFLY travelled keenly for a short distance. He said in the Straight JADE DRAGONFLY did close the race off satisfactorily, however, in his opinion the horse did not fully appreciate today's track conditions. He did point out when JADE DRAGONFLY was successful at its most recent start, the track was more forgiving than that of today. HIGH PRICE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of HIGH PRICE after the race did not show any significant findings. JADE DRAGONFLY, CHINSOLA and PACIFIC ALLIANCE were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 28 April 2006)
The Stewards have today been advised that after finishing fourth in this race JADE DRAGONFLY was subjected to an endoscopic examination at the request of the horse's trainer, Mr P O'Sullivan. The Veterinary Surgeon reported this examination showed JADE DRAGONFLY to have a significant amount of mucopus present in the trachea. Before being allowed to race again, JADE DRAGONFLY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
