Racing Incident Report

CLASSIC DELIGHT and NORTHERNER were slow to begin. SOPRANO began awkwardly. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, NORTHERNER got its head up when being steadied while awkwardly placed between LEILATI and EQUATOR KID. At the same time, RICE FIELD, which was following EQUATOR KID, got its head up. At the 600 Metres, SOPRANO was steadied away from the heels of LEILATI. After the 400 Metres, LUCKY SIXER, which was giving ground, was steadied when crowded for room inside FASHION JEWELLERY which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in. SOPRANO, which was following LUCKY SIXER, was steadied and shifted out away from that horse. No action was taken. After the 200 Metres, EQUATOR KID was bumped by AMBITIOUS TYCOON which shifted further after initially being carried out by LEILATI. At the 50 Metres, FASHION JEWELLERY raced in restricted room to the inside of VERY FIT. For the major part of the race, CLEAN SWEEP raced wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the improved performance of VERY FIT, Mr A S Cruz, trainer of the horse, said in the horse's earlier career wins in lower class races, it had managed over 1600 Metres to lead and dictate the race. He said at its last start which was also over 1600 Metres, however, in Class 2, the horse was not able to lead. He said today when racing over 1800 Metres, VERY FIT from the outside barrier was able to work across gradually and after reaching the lead steady the tempo and run the race to suit itself, in his opinion this led to the horse performing better. He said also as VERY FIT has matured, it has taken longer for the horse to reach fitness. He added two starts ago when VERY FIT was able to lead over today's course and distance, it on that occasion did not have its own way in front and as a consequence compounded in the Straight. He said the manner in which VERY FIT was able to dictate today in his opinion was a reason for the horse's improved performance. COURAGEOUSHEART was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of COURAGEOUSHEART after the race did not show any significant findings. RICE FIELD, VERY FIT and FASHION JEWELLERY were sent for sampling.
