Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, HAWKIE STAR became fractious and sat down behind. HAWKIE STAR was removed from the stalls and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. HAWKIE STAR was slow to begin. MOONGLOW began awkwardly and shortly afterwards stumbled. PLEZAYRE began awkwardly and shifted in. On jumping, MIRACLE DRAGON was steadied when crowded for room between FLAG FINDER and TREASURE PLANET which shifted out abruptly. For some distance after the 400 Metres, ALL FIT was steadied and shifted to the inside of TREASURE PLANET to obtain clear running. Over the final 400 Metres, MIRACLE DRAGON hung out and FORTE hung in. Over the concluding stages, PLEZAYRE was inconvenienced when awkwardly placed inside the heels of SMART FELLOW which shifted in while hanging. When questioned, Apprentice C K Tong (STAR PRODIGY) explained in the early stages he had ridden his mount along, near the 900 Metres was obliged to steady to avoid the heels of PLEZAYRE which shifted out when barely clear. He said after this he continued to ride STAR PRODIGY along and near the 600 Metres when racing between ALL FIT and MOONGLOW, he endeavoured to improve his position behind GOLDEN FARM. He said despite his riding STAR PRODIGY did not quicken and near the 400 Metres he again steadied to avoid the heels of FLAG FINGER which at this time shifted out when only just clear. He said after this until about the 100 Metres STAR PRODIGY remained held up close to the heels of FLAG FINDER and he was unable to shift to the inside of that horse as GOLDEN FARM commenced to give ground. He said because of this he continually steadied STAR PRODIGY until after the 100 Metres when he was then able to apply some pressure to the horse. He said because of this STAR PRODIGY was not properly tested. TREASURE PLANET was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, TREASURE PLANET was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse had a throat inflammation and a displacement of the soft palate. Before being allowed to race again, TREASURE PLANET will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. LUCKY FRUIT and SMART FELLOW were sent for sampling.
