Racing Incident Report

LUCKY KING was withdrawn on 4.2.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter NASA PEARL (C Brown). Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY KING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. On jumping, CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE was crowded for room between ELECTRONICS SPUR and SOCRATES which shifted out. As a result of this crowding, CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE bumped the hindquarters of ELECTRONICS SPUR, causing that horse to become unbalanced behind. MATIRI KING was slow to begin. Making the Home Turn, ALL CHANCES hung out. At the 50 Metres, DASH AHEAD was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of DR MORE which shifted in slightly. Over the concluding stages, ELECTRONICS SPUR got its head on the side, shifted wider on the track and raced tight inside ALL CHANCES. W M Lai (WINNING SUNSHINE) pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards [Rule 100(2)]. For this breach, W M Lai was fined $20,000. R Fradd (MILLION SUCCESS) said the intention had been to ride the horse in about 5th position but most importantly he was to endeavour to have the horse relaxed. He said as the start was effected, MILLION SUCCESS which had been fractious was slow to begin and because of the pace he dropped the horse in behind runners to be in a rearward position. He said despite racing much further back than intended, MILLION SUCCESS travelled comfortably, then near the 800 Metres he shifted to the outside of NASA PEARL as in his opinion that horse would not carry him forward. He said after this he endeavoured to gradually improve his position around the field without making too much use of MILLION SUCCESS. He said prior to straightening he commenced to ride MILLION SUCCESS along, the horse initially responded to his riding, however, was inclined to get its head on the side and lay in behind BEAR DOMINANCE. He said despite this he was disappointed that MILLION SUCCESS had failed to close the race off over the final 200 Metres. NASA PEARL was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, NASA PEARL was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart beat. Before being allowed to race again, NASA PEARL will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ALL CHANCES and ELECTRONICS SPUR were sent for sampling.
