Racing Incident Report

FIRST KNIGHT began awkwardly, bumped the outside gate of its stall and lost a considerable amount of ground. PIONERO began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of SPOKESMAN. After the 1200 Metres, CLASSIC HORSE was momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed inside DEVON FLAIR. In the early stages, HAPPY ASH proved difficult to settle. Apprentice H W Lai (UNIVERSAL PIONEER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 1000 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of MR GENKI, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be steadied. Apprentice Lai was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 2 April 2006 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting on Wednesday 22 March 2006. Near the 700 Metres, DEVON FLAIR got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of MR GENKI. Prior to straightening, MYTHIC STEED was steadied away from the heels of SOLAR POWER. Near the 300 Metres, FIRST KNIGHT, which was commencing to close the race off strongly, was shifted out in an endeavour to improve between DEVON FLAIR and HARVEY MUDD. FIRST KNIGHT was disappointed for this run and shifted back in. At the 100 Metres, UNIVERSAL PIONEER, which was giving ground, was checked when crowded for room inside CLASSIC HORSE which when being shifted out to obtain clear running between UNIVERSAL PIONEER and FIRST KNIGHT made contact with the hindquarters of FIRST KNIGHT. As a result of this, FIRST KNIGHT shifted in. In this incident, CLASSIC HORSE was also steadied. In the circumstances, no action was taken. For the major part of the race, SPY KING travelled wide and without cover. After passing the winning post, DEVON FLAIR fell and dislodged A Delpech, its rider. As A Delpech was unavailable due to being transported to hospital, the Stewards have adjourned an inquiry into the reason for DEVON FLAIR falling. SOLAR POWER was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. LUCKY PACKET was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SOLAR POWER and LUCKY PACKET after the race did not show any significant findings. MR GENKI and SPOKESMAN were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported PIONERO had bled from both nostrils.
