Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, D Dunn (VICTORY CHARIOT) reported to the Veterinary Officer that the horse was reluctant to stretch out during the preliminary. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said after consultation with D Dunn in his opinion it was suitable to race. From the outside gate, MILLION CHASE was taken across behind runners. Shortly after the start, SUPER DRAGON lost ground when crowded for room between RAINBOW EXPRESS and FLORAL FOKANZA which was carried in by PEACH BLOSSOM. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, PEACH BLOSSOM was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of FLORAL FOKANZA. Passing the 800 Metres, VICTORY CHARIOT commenced to hang out and gave ground, then after straightening was eased down by D Dunn. When VICTORY CHARIOT commenced to give ground after the 800 Metres, GLOBAL FORTUNE and MILLION CHASE were checked in consequence and lost ground. VICTORY CHARIOT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, VICTORY CHARIOT was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, VICTORY CHARIOT will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. D Dunn was fined $5,000 for misconduct in that after dismounting VICTORY CHARIOT inside the 300 Metres, he struck the horse with his whip on the hindquarters [Rule 155(5)]. In the early part of the Straight, SUGAR AND SON hung in, near the 300 Metres was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FLORAL FOKANZA which shifted out. In the Straight, RAINBOW EXPRESS got its head on the side and hung out. Also in the Straight, FLORAL FOKANZA hung out. S Dye (RAINBOW EXPRESS), 5th placegetter, pleaded guilty to a charge of having failed to ride his mount out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards. For this breach, S Dye was fined $20,000 [Rule 100(2)]. D Whyte (DEMINER) said from an outside barrier the horse travelled wide and without cover, making the turn at the 800 Metres would not relax underneath him and hung out badly. He said as a consequence DEMINER failed to run on in the Straight. DEMINER was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, DEMINER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had lost its right front plate. The performance of DEMINER was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, DEMINER will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. HAPPY SUNDAY and DEVON FLAIR were sent for sampling.
