Racing Incident Report
After having reported some concerns regarding the safety of the track conditions during the running of Race 2, B Prebble subsequently confirmed that he would fulfil his engagement on CROWNED GEM in this race. In the circumstances of today's meeting, B Prebble, who was late into the Parade Ring, was told to ensure he presents himself at the required time. On jumping, TABBRIS stumbled. EUPHORIC KID was slow to begin. In the early stages, MASTER ABLE failed to muster speed and became detached. At the 800 Metres, OKEYDOKEY was steadied away from the heels of HAPPY WINNING (W M Lai) which shifted in when barely clear. W M Lai was advised to exercise care. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, DANSING FUN hung out, shifted ground and bumped RAINBOW EXPRESS which was carried wider. OPERA MAGIC and CROWNED GEM, which were following, were checked to avoid the heels of DANSING FUN and RAINBOW EXPRESS. After the 700 Metres, DANSING FUN was steadied away from the heels of TABBRIS which shifted out away from the heels of OKEYDOKEY. Near the 600 Metres, EUPHORIC KID was steadied when awkwardly placed inside OPERA MAGIC. O Doleuze (DOUCAI) explained his mount travelled comfortably in a forward position. He said on straightening he placed DOUCAI under pressure, the horse immediately shortened its stride and failed to respond to his riding and consequently was most disappointing. DOUCAI was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, DOUCAI was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, DOUCAI will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the poor performance of RAINBOW EXPRESS, Apprentice C W Wong explained at no stage of the race did his horse handle the track conditions. He said in addition RAINBOW EXPRESS hung out in the middle stages. RAINBOW EXPRESS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of RAINBOW EXPRESS after the race did not show any significant findings. OKEYDOKEY, GRAND COMMANDS and HAPPY WINNING were sent for sampling.
