Racing Incident Report

SOCRATES bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. At the 1200 Metres, SUMMERVILLE POWER was tightened for room inside MILLION SUCCESS. Near the 200 Metres, DIAMOND ERA was steadied when disappointed for running between MIGHTY HUGO and SURVEYOR. C Munce (MIGHTY HUGO) said from the outside barrier he had been instructed to ride the horse quietly in the early stages to ensure it obtained a position with cover. He said MIGHTY HUGO, which was having its second start in blinkers tonight, proved difficult to settle and over-raced. He said as a consequence MIGHTY HUGO did not finish the race off as hoped. Mr J Size, trainer of MIGHTY HUGO, confirmed the riding instructions issued and said whilst the horse has the necessary pace to take up a forward position when drawn favourably, it has previously when racing at Happy Valley from an outside barrier being ridden more quietly. He said from an outside barrier MIGHTY HUGO at Happy Valley does not seem to possess the necessary pace to obtain a favourable position, therefore runs the risk of travelling wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the poor performance of ABERDEEN, Y T Cheng said he was not able to obtain a position with cover and therefore travelled midfield in a three wide position. He said ABERDEEN travelled comfortably, however, when placed under pressure after the 600 Metres failed to respond to his riding. He was unable to offer any explanation for the performance of ABERDEEN. W C Marwing (SOCRATES) reported despite being ridden vigorously throughout the race, the horse failed to stretch out and finished tailed out. The performance of SOCRATES was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, SOCRATES will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SOCRATES was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SOCRATES after the race did not show any significant findings. ABERDEEN was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of ABERDEEN after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of ABERDEEN was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, ABERDEEN will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DASH AHEAD and MEATH were sent for sampling.
