Racing Incident Report

QI'S PET was slow to begin and shortly afterwards lost further ground when crowded for room between LIAOBUQI which began awkwardly and shifted out and ALL OUR WAY which shifted in. After this, LIAOBUQI was ridden along, however, failed to muster its customary speed. On jumping, MAKE YOU JEALOUS was bumped by LIBERAL'S RIDE which shifted in. DARE TO WIN and BUDDIES POWER began awkwardly. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, ALL OUR WAY was steadied away from the heels of MAKE YOU JEALOUS which shifted in. Also approaching the winning post on the first occasion, DARE TO WIN and BUDDIES POWER bumped. D Nikolic (ELFHELM) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the winning post on the first occasion he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of WATCHMAN, causing that horse to be taken in across the running of MAKE YOU JEALOUS which was checked and in turn shifted in, crowding the room of LIAOBUQI. D Nikolic was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 19 October 2006 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Saturday 7 October 2006. In addition, D Nikolic was fined $10,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 1 further raceday. DARE TO WIN pulled hard in the early and middle stages and proved difficult to settle. Near the 500 Metres, FANTASTIC WIN was steadied off the heels of ELFHELM and shifted out to improve its position. Approaching the 250 Metres, FANTASTIC WIN was checked when crowded for room between ELFHELM and SUPER FANTASY (A Delpech), both of which shifted ground. In the circumstances, both D Nikolic and A Delpech were advised that they must make every endeavour to keep their mounts in a straight course. Passing the 250 Metres, ALL OUR WAY was hampered when WATCHMAN was taken in by BUDDIES POWER which shifted in when tiring. A short distance later, BUDDIES POWER which continued to weaken was crowded for room between DARE TO WIN and WATCHMAN which shifted out. Passing the 200 Metres, DARE TO WIN became unbalanced when bumped by WATCHMAN (Apprentice K L Chui) which shifted out. Apprentice Chui was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future. In the Straight, SUPER FANTASY hung in under pressure. In the closing stages, M Odendaal (LIBERAL'S RIDE) dropped his whip. When questioned, S Dye (QI'S PET) said he was aware the horse had begun badly in a 1800 Metre gallop last Monday 25 September 2006. He said the horse tonight was slow to begin and then was further hampered between runners. He said for this reason QI'S PET was obliged to race back in the field and made up fair ground in the run to the finish line. FANTASTIC WIN and BUDDIES POWER were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of FANTASTIC WIN and BUDDIES POWER after the race did not show any significant findings. LIAOBUQI, BARRACUDA and ALL OUR WAY were sent for sampling.
