Racing Incident Report

THREE CLUBS was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, KING HOGAN blundered, then lost further ground when being checked away from the heels of GREEN IN BLUE. Near the 1500 Metres, SAMBUOYANT was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of SERIOUS PLAY. Prior to straightening, MASTER DREAMER was checked to avoid the heels of FLAME POWER which was giving ground. Approaching the 200 Metres, KING HOGAN, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of SERIOUS PLAY. Throughout the race, SERIOUS PLAY travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, S Dye (RAIN IN SPRING) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said the horse had not performed well at its two prior runs this season, he was therefore asked to have the horse slightly further forward in what was expected to be a slowly run race. He said he did have to make some use of RAIN IN SPRING in the early and middle stages to prevent SERIOUS PLAY crossing, then in the Straight RAIN IN SPRING failed to run on. Apprentice K T Yeung (BARRACUDA) explained the intention had been to lead with the horse, however, despite being ridden along in the early stages BARRACUDA failed to muster speed. He said passing the 700 Metres he rode BARRACUDA in an endeavour to have the horse on the bit, however, BARRACUDA did not respond and in the Straight was most disappointing. W M Lai (MASTER DREAMER), 4th placegetter, pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards. In the circumstances of this case, W M Lai was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 30 November 2006 on which day he may resume race riding (5 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Sunday 12 November 2006. BARRACUDA and RAIN IN SPRING were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BARRACUDA and RAIN IN SPRING after the race did not show any significant findings. WONDERFUL BLESSING and DOUBLE PLEASURE were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported KING HOGAN had lost its left front plate.
