Racing Incident Report

EASY GAME was slow to begin. ROMANTIC GREEN began awkwardly and lost ground. In the early stages, KOWLOON FIT proved difficult to settle. After the 200 Metres, SYDNEY EXPRESS was steadied when crowded for room between GRAND NOBLE and CALIFORNIAMOUNTAIN which when giving ground shifted out. In the Straight, GRAND NOBLE hung in. Apprentice K T Yeung (GALLANT FALCON) explained in the early part of the Straight he did not ride his mount along as there was only a tight run for him to improve into between MAGI JOY and CALIFORNIAMOUNTAIN. He said at this time it appeared CALIFORNIAMOUNTAIN was drifting in slightly and therefore he waited until he was sure there was sufficient room after the 350 Metres before he rode his mount along. When questioned, B Prebble (CALIFORNIAMOUNTAIN) said the horse at its first start in Hong Kong pulled hard and raced greenly. He said today it was thought CALIFORNIAMOUNTAIN would be able to lead, however, his primary concern was to ensure the horse travelled kindly. He said after beginning well runners to his inside were ridden along to go forward and for him to have cleared those runners to cross to the fence would have in his opinion required him to make too much use of CALIFORNIAMOUNTAIN. He said additionally this would have caused CALIFORNIAMOUNTAIN to again over-race which he believed would have been detrimental to the horse's chances. He said after allowing MAGI JOY and KOWLOON FIT to go forward he was not able to obtain the position with cover behind those horses, therefore he travelled three wide throughout. CALIFORNIAMOUNTAIN was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. SYDNEY EXPRESS and EASY GAME was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CALIFORNIAMOUNTAIN, SYDNEY EXPRESS and EASY GAME after the race did not show any significant findings. CARRIZO CREEK and NOBLE HEART were sent for sampling.
