Racing Incident Report

MY BROTHER was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore). Before being allowed to race again, MY BROTHER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Prior to leaving the holding stables, CIRCULAR MACHINE had its left front plate refitted. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. NOBLE CONQUEROR was slow to begin. MOVE IT was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, GOLD FIELD got its head up and raced awkwardly inside GALLANT FALCON. Approaching the 1000 Metres, ADD THE FUN (Apprentice H W Lai) steadied the tempo in front. As a consequence of this, CIRCULAR MACHINE, PACKING ANGEL, GALLANT FALCON, GOLD FIELD, EXPEDITIOUS and NOBLE CONQUEROR, which were following, were severely hampered. Apprentice Lai was severely reprimanded and told he should not steady the tempo too quickly after reaching the lead. In the middle stages, NOBLE CONQUEROR proved difficult to settle. Shortly after straightening, GOLD FIELD was steadied and shifted to the outside of CIRCULAR MACHINE. NOBLE CONQUEROR, which was following, was held up and unable to improve when close to the heels of GOLD FIELD. Also shortly after straightening, ADD THE FUN shifted in and bumped the running rail. Near the 200 Metres, SEASONS TREASURE was steadied when disappointed for running between FIGHTING MASCOT and EXPEDITIOUS. From the 200 Metres until the 100 Metres, NOBLE CONQUEROR was held up and unable to obtain clear running. Over the final 75 Metres, FIGHTING MASCOT (M Nunes) and EXPEDITIOUS (Apprentice K L Chui) raced tight between GALLANT FALCON and MOVE IT which shifted in while hanging. Because of this, EXPEDITIOUS and FIGHTING MASCOT were steadied and not ridden out to the end of the race. M Nunes and Apprentice Chui were warned against the practice of allowing their elbows to come into contact with the body of another rider. Apprentice K L Chui said he had been instructed to ride the horse quietly as two runs ago when the horse travelled worse than midfield it closed the race off strongly. He said tonight EXPEDITIOUS began well, he allowed it to drift back in the early stages, however, when the tempo of the race steadied near the 1000 Metres EXPEDITIOUS which had been proving difficult to settle was hampered and carried wider and as a result travelled without cover. He said EXPEDITIOUS continued to prove difficult to settle, then in the Straight when closing off fairly was crowded for room over the concluding stages and as a consequence he was not able to ride his mount out fully to the end of the race. NOBLE CONQUEROR, CONESTOGA and PACKING ANGEL were sent for sampling.
