Racing Incident Report

While parading behind the barriers, STRONG GAIN was kicked on the left hind leg by another runner. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. GOLDEN SUN was slow to begin. Making the first turn, STRONG GAIN got its head on the side, hung out badly and ran to the outside fence. STRONG GAIN was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of STRONG GAIN after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, STRONG GAIN will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. At the 500 Metres, AMPLE GAINS was steadied when awkwardly placed between SUPER WONGCHOY and ALL TIME HIGH. On straightening, ALL TIME HIGH was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of DORDENMA. For the major part of the race, ALL TIME HIGH travelled wide and without cover. The performances of ALL TIME HIGH and LIGHT OF JOY, which finished distanced, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ALL TIME HIGH and LIGHT OF JOY will both have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Apprentice K L Chui (GLOBAL WIN) said he had been instructed to lead. He said GLOBAL WIN was slow to begin, he then rode along to go forward, however, approaching the first turn he was aware LIGHT OF JOY which was to his inside was being hard ridden to hold the lead. He said because of this he decided to take a sit outside that horse. He said in his opinion if he had continued to ride forward in an attempt to cross LIGHT OF JOY, that horse would have gone forward with him and as a consequence he would have been required to make too much use of GLOBAL WIN which would have been detrimental to its chances. When questioned, D Whyte (DORDENMA) said approaching the Home Turn when placed under pressure the horse commenced to hang out, did not respond to his riding and became unbalanced in its action. He said as he was concerned something might be seriously amiss with DORDENMA, he eased the horse down. DORDENMA was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, DORDENMA was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, DORDENMA will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GOLDEN SUN and SUPER WONGCHOY were sent for sampling.
