Racing Incident Report
FINGERS CROSSED began awkwardly and bounded in the air. WIN PRACTITIONER was slow to begin. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, MOONGLOW failed to muster speed. Approaching the 1100 Metres, HAPPY ALL AROUND became unbalanced when crowded for room between LASER TIGER which shifted out slightly and PEARL OF INDIA which shifted in slightly after initially being carried in by THUNDER STORM which in turn was carried in by SHINING DRAGON. No action was taken. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, FOREVER FORTUNE hung out. Also making the turn at the 800 Metres, WIN PRACTITIONER hung out badly, got its head up and shifted wider on the track. WIN PRACTITIONER then continued to hang out until after entering the Home Straight. For some distance approaching and passing the 400 Metres, LASER TIGER had difficulty obtaining clear running between THUNDER STORM and HAPPY ALL AROUND. Near the 200 Metres, FINGERS CROSSED, which had been having difficulty obtaining clear running, was shifted to the inside of PEARL OF INDIA to go forward. Apprentice C K Tong (FANTASTIC GUY) explained the horse, which was having its first race start today, after beginning badly did not muster speed and became detached from the field. He said he continued to encourage FANTASTIC GUY to make up ground, however, the horse did not respond to his riding. He said in the Straight he rode FANTASTIC GUY out vigorously hands and heels. He said FANTASTIC GUY responded strongly to this riding and near the 100 Metres was steadied and shifted out to continue going forward in the run to the line. Apprentice Tong was told his explanation would be reported. MOONGLOW was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, MOONGLOW was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. WIN PRACTITIONER, CAGA BOY and LASER TIGER were sent for sampling.
