Racing Incident Report
PRIMIATA, which was standing with its head turned to the left, was slow to begin. SILVER WRAITH and VITAL PATROL were slow to begin. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, TRAVEL LEADER failed to muster speed. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, VITAL PATROL, which was being steadied to obtain a position behind SILVER WRAITH, was checked when crowded for room between that horse and SUPER FANTASY (D Nikolic) which when itself was being restrained proved difficult to settle and shifted in. KAO AND MING, which was following, was checked to avoid the heels of VITAL PATROL. D Nikolic was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to exercise greater care. After this incident, SUPER FANTASY continued to prove difficult to settle. When giving ground after the 600 Metres, TRAVEL LEADER hung in. Near the 200 Metres, O Doleuze (MASTER DREAMER) dropped his whip. Throughout the race, LEADER travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, E Saint-Martin (ALL OUR WAY) said in the early stages the horse did not relax for him. He said after entering the Back Straight ALL OUR WAY dropped the bit and travelled kindly and as the horse had relaxed after the 800 Metres he was reluctant to ride along to improve his position behind SUPER FANTASY, he therefore remained travelling some distance off that horse which in turn had TRAVEL LEADER racing to its outside. He said it was his intention after the 600 Metres to commence to make ground inside TRAVEL LEADER and follow SUPER FANTASY forward in the race, however, at this time TRAVEL LEADER which had travelled wide commenced to give ground and when doing so hung in, causing ALL OUR WAY some inconvenience. He said he continued to be held up and unable to improve between SILVER WRAITH and TRAVEL LEADER until after entering the Home Straight. E Saint-Martin did acknowledge after viewing the film that in hindsight he should have made some use of ALL OUR WAY to improve his position approaching the 600 Metres. He was told in similar circumstances he would be expected to avail himself of opportunities to improve his position when available, particularly at vital stages of the race. VITAL PATROL was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of VITAL PATROL after the race did not show any significant findings. MASTER DREAMER and G-ONE LEADING were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported DASHING FLAIR had bled from both nostrils.
