Racing Incident Report
During the preliminary, VITAL PATROL kicked out and made contact with a rail. After arriving at the Start, VITAL PATROL was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. VINTAGE GOLD began awkwardly, blundered badly behind, became unbalanced and as a consequence lost a considerable amount of ground. From the outside barrier, COME HO CHOI was taken across behind runners. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, VINTAGE GOLD, which had been hard ridden to make up ground, was steadied away from the heels of SILLY BOY. After this, VINTAGE GOLD proved difficult to settle and after the 1200 Metres was crowded for room inside VITAL PATROL which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in away from SUDDEN SPLENDOR. COME HO CHOI and AMAZING CHOICE, which were following, were hampered in consequence. After the 1200 Metres, DRAGON STRIDE was reluctant to hold its position. At the 1100 Metres, COME HO CHOI was crowded for room inside DRAGON STRIDE which got its head on the side and hung in away from LIVERBIRD. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, VINTAGE GOLD was crowded for room inside VITAL PATROL which had been hanging in and at this time despite the efforts of its rider shifted ground. Also making the turn at the 600 Metres, COME HO CHOI was checked when crowded for room inside DRAGON STRIDE which had been hanging in and shifted ground away from LIVERBIRD which also shifted in at this time. In the circumstances, no action was taken. At the 200 Metres, O Doleuze (DRAGON STRIDE) dropped his whip. Near the 100 Metres, DRAGON STRIDE and MILITARY OPTION were momentarily crowded for room between LIVERBIRD which drifted out and AMAZING CHOICE which shifted in. Also near the 100 Metres, VINTAGE GOLD was steadied and shifted to the inside of SILLY BOY to continue into clear running. Throughout the race, SUDDEN SPLENDOR travelled wide and without cover. Mr C H Yip, trainer of NEW COMMAND, said prior to the horse's most recent start it had been racing consistently. He said on that occasion he had instructed D Whyte to lead on the horse if the tempo of the race was suitable, however, if other horses pressed forward, he should endeavour to follow the leader. He said in hindsight NEW COMMAND was not suited being ridden in that manner as in his opinion the horse did not appreciate racing behind other runners. He said because of this he had tonight instructed Apprentice C W Wong with the light weight to ensure he obtained the lead in the early stages from a favourable barrier. He said NEW COMMAND was able to lead the race at a steady tempo and in his opinion was suited by these circumstances tonight. COME HO CHOI was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of COME HO CHOI after the race did not show any significant findings. NEW COMMAND and SILLY BOY were sent for sampling.
