Racing Incident Report

After being loaded, SILVER WRAITH became fractious and momentarily had its left hind leg caught on the adjoining partition inside its stall. SILVER WRAITH was removed from its stall and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. TRAVEL LEADER began awkwardly, shifted in, then shortly afterwards was steadied and lost ground when crowded for room between SILVER WRAITH and QI'S PET which after making contact with G-ONE LEADING shifted in. In the early stages, NICKU NICKU was taken across behind runners. At the 1000 Metres, DARE TO WIN was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of KINGSTON WINNER which at this time steadied to allow PILLOW KING to cross to the lead. At the 600 Metres, TRAVEL LEADER lost ground when awkwardly placed inside the heels of NICKU NICKU which at this time was steadied and shifted in away from the heels of HARRY HARRY which had its head on the side and shifted in. At the 100 Metres, TRAVEL LEADER, which was closing the race off strongly, was steadied away from the heels of SILVER WRAITH which at this time shifted in. Throughout the race, PURPLE GOLD travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, Mr T K Ng, trainer of KINGSTON WINNER, said when the horse had its last start over 1400 Metres at Sha Tin, he had on that occasion instructed the rider from a wide barrier to endeavour to obtain a position with cover. He said previously KINGSTON WINNER if ridden to go forward and left racing in the lead had performed poorly. He said whilst KINGSTON WINNER was further back than he anticipated, because of the manner in which the race was run he was satisfied with the riding of W M Lai. He said on that occasion KINGSTON WINNER had disappointed him in the manner in which it had finished the race off. He said tonight stepping back up in distance on a track that favoured runners on the fence, he instructed Apprentice K L Chui to go forward, cross to the rail and then allow other runners to improve around his outside to obtain cover. He said this was similar to the manner in which the horse had been ridden over the same course and distance when it had performed well. Mr Ng was told whilst the Stewards appreciate different tracks and different distances may require horses to be ridden in a different manner, he nonetheless has a responsibility to ensure horses trained by him are ridden consistently where circumstances permit. E Saint-Martin (QI'S PET) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said QI'S PET began fairly and he was able to obtain a nice position one out and one back. He said QI'S PET travelled comfortably in the run, however, failed to respond when asked for an effort after straightening. QI'S PET was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of QI'S PET after the race did not show any significant findings. DARE TO WIN, KINGSTON WINNER and G-ONE LEADING were sent for sampling.
