Racing Incident Report

On jumping, COULDN'T CARE LESS blundered. JOYFUL UNION and SMARTY were slow to begin. From the outside barrier, DANZIGMOUNTAIN was taken across behind runners. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, JOYFUL UNION was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of THREE CLUBS which shifted in when barely clear. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, SHANGHAI DELIGHT was momentarily steadied away from the heels of GLOBAL WAY. Near the 400 Metres, STAR PRODIGY was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of TIMBER CITY which was giving ground. For the major part of the race, GLOBAL WAY travelled wide and without cover. In the Straight, GLOBAL WAY hung out, after the 100 Metres shifted ground and brushed SHANGHAI DELIGHT. Also in the Straight, STAR PRODIGY hung out. Apprentice K L Chui (TIMBER CITY) said he had been instructed to lead on the horse if possible. He said after beginning well he rode TIMBER CITY along to follow his instructions, however, making the turn out of the Straight on the first occasion FIGS crossed to race on his outside. He said as a consequence he had to make more use of TIMBER CITY to maintain a forward position than he would have liked and because of this TIMBER CITY failed to respond to his riding after the 500 Metres and was most disappointing. The performance of TIMBER CITY, a last start winner over the same course and distance, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, TIMBER CITY will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Apprentice K T Yeung (FIGS) explained he had been instructed to lead on the horse. He said because of this he rode his mount along from a wide barrier in the early stages. He said making the first turn FIGS jumped a mark on the track. He said at the 1300 Metres he shifted across to race outside TIMBER CITY and initially continued on to see if he was able to cross that horse. He said after entering the Back Straight it became apparent to him that he would not be able to clear TIMBER CITY, he therefore endeavoured to steady his mount to take up a position behind that runner, however, FIGS would not come back underneath him and as a consequence continued to race outside TIMBER CITY. He said because of the quick tempo of the early stages of the race FIGS failed to close the race off over the final 200 Metres. TIMBER CITY, STAR PRODIGY and FIGS were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of TIMBER CITY, STAR PRODIGY and FIGS after the race did not show any significant findings. BAUHINIA and THREE CLUBS were sent for sampling.
