Racing Incident Report
PHANTOM THIEF was withdrawn on 11.5.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter NIRVANA (S Dye). Before being allowed to race again, PHANTOM THIEF will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. LUCKY WINNER began awkwardly and lost a considerable amount of ground at the start. WATCH WHAT HAPPENS and FAT CHOY FOREVER were a little slow to begin. Passing the 200 Metres, LIBERAL'S KNIGHT was steadied when disappointed for running between BLUE GENES and FANTASTIC SUN which shifted out. Over the concluding stages, LUCKY WINNER and GLOBAL WIN raced tight. Throughout the race, CHEERFUL MASTER travelled wide and without cover and finished tailed out. The performance of CHEERFUL MASTER was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CHEERFUL MASTER will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Y T Cheng (STRONG GAIN), which was racing first up from a spell today, said he was able to obtain a position in front of midfield as instructed. He said in the middle stages STRONG GAIN hung out, then was most disappointing when it failed to respond to his riding in the Straight. He said the manner in which STRONG GAIN raced indicated to him it would derive benefit from today's race. Apprentice C W Wong (FAT CHOY FOREVER) explained in his opinion the horse, which was dropping back in distance today, was disappointing in that it failed to show its usual early speed. He said because of this FAT CHOY FOREVER was unable to obtain the fence and dictate the race as it had done when it was successful over 1650 Metres at its last start. He said FAT CHOY FOREVER gave ground in the Straight. STRONG GAIN, CHEERFUL MASTER and FAT CHOY FOREVER were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of STRONG GAIN, CHEERFUL MASTER and FAT CHOY FOREVER after the race did not show any significant findings. WATCH WHAT HAPPENS and LIBERAL'S KNIGHT were sent for sampling. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on FANTASTIC SUN at the request of the horse's trainer, Mr A T Millard as after returning to the stable the horse had blood present at its right nostril. The Veterinary Officer reported this examination showed the horse to have bled. He also said FANTASTIC SUN had sustained a cut to its right hock.
