Racing Incident Report

GOLDEN SUN began awkwardly. In the early stages, with the intention of being ridden with cover, MAVERICK STAR got its head up when being taken across behind runners. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, ELECTRONICS SPUR was steadied to avoid the heels of EVER BRIGHT (D Nikolic) which shifted in when not properly clear. D Nikolic was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. After the 1800 Metres, SYLLABUS, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when being checked to avoid the heels of EVER BRIGHT which at this time steadied after having crossed to race outside the lead. D Nikolic was told to exercise care. After entering the Back Straight, PUERTO RICO was left racing wide and without cover. After the 1400 Metres, SYLLABUS was momentarily crowded for room inside EVER BRIGHT. For some distance after the 1200 Metres, NORTHERNER, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of VIVA MACAU. The performances of SOCRATES and PUERTO RICO, which tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SOCRATES and PUERTO RICO will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the poor performance of SYLLABUS, E Saint-Martin said the horse felt a little restricted in its action and did not travel nearly as comfortably as it had when he had ridden the horse previously. He said SYLLABUS had worked well on the Monday prior to the race, however, the work of SYLLABUS on Thursday was not as good and he had reported this to the stable. SYLLABUS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, SYLLABUS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was making an abnormal breathing noise. SOCRATES was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, SOCRATES was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. EVER BRIGHT and SATURN were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported VIVA MACAU had sustained abrasions to its right hock.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 14 May 2007)
SYLLABUS, which performed poorly, was examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison. He said at that time he noted the horse was making an abnormal breathing noise. SYLLABUS was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer D E Ferraris yesterday morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have back pain and a stiff and restricted hindlimb action. Before being allowed to race again, SYLLABUS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
