Racing Incident Report

After leaving the Parade Ring, BULLDOZER refused to enter the track for a considerable time. Mr C H Yip, trainer of BULLDOZER, was advised a warning would be placed on the horse regarding this behaviour. When the gates opened, JOLLY GOOD FORTUNE bounded in the air, causing D Nikolic, its rider, to become unbalanced. As a consequence, JOLLY GOOD FORTUNE lost a considerable amount of ground at the start. Before being allowed to race again, JOLLY GOOD FORTUNE will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. Near the 600 Metres, FLY HIGH, which throughout the race had been travelling wide and without cover, became unbalanced and shifted wider as a result of being steadied away from the hindquarters of BULLDOZER. After this, FLY HIGH commenced to give ground and finished tailed out. The performance of FLY HIGH was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FLY HIGH will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. In the Straight, BULLDOZER hung out. B Prebble (LASER POWER), which was having its first start on the All Weather surface today, explained he had been asked to ride the horse where it was comfortable. He said as has been discussed previously he is of the opinion LASER POWER is best suited not being pressured to obtain a forward position. He said when being ridden in this manner today, LASER POWER travelled slightly worse than midfield and closed the race off strongly. He added in his opinion LASER POWER will be better suited when racing over distances of further than 1200 Metres. He did say in races of longer than 1200 Metres LASER POWER may travel in a more forward position due to the tempo of the race. When questioned regarding the performance of WATCH WHAT HAPPENS, O Doleuze explained his mount travelled comfortably in a similar position to when it was successful at its most recent start. He said on straightening he shifted into clear running, however the horse did not quicken as it did at its last start and in his opinion was somewhat disappointing. FLY HIGH and JOLLY GOOD FORTUNE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, FLY HIGH was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to be a "roarer". A veterinary inspection of JOLLY GOOD FORTUNE after the race did not show any significant findings. WATCH WHAT HAPPENS, ROYAL PERICLES and LIBERAL'S KNIGHT were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported ROYAL PERICLES had lost its left front plate. Also after the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on LUCKY WINNER at the request of Trainer C Fownes. He said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY WINNER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
