Racing Incident Report

BROWN BEAUTY was slow to begin. From a gate towards the outside, SILVER MARK was taken across behind runners in the early stages. After the 1900 Metres, ELEPHANT DANCE was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of GREEN IN BLUE. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, PRIMIATA was steadied away from the heels of DURABLE. At the 1300 Metres, FEBURO was checked and SILVER MARK crowded for room when awkwardly placed between ELFHELM which shifted out slightly and BROWN BEAUTY. No action was taken. After the 1300 Metres, ELFHELM became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of ELEPHANT DANCE. After the 600 Metres, MEATH, which was shifting out, was bumped on the hindquarters by BROWN BEAUTY which was endeavouring to prevent that horse from shifting wider. When questioned, Apprentice C K Tong (DURABLE) said he had been instructed to lead and commence to make his run making the turn out of the Back Straight. These instructions were confirmed by Mr W Y So, assistant trainer to Mr C Fownes, trainer of the horse. Apprentice Tong said after beginning well from an inside barrier, he was able to obtain the lead in the early stages, however, when SPACED improved its position to race on his outside after the 1900 Metres he felt the tempo of the race was strong and it appeared the rider of SPACED was intent on obtaining the lead. He said because of this he looked behind him to see how far DURABLE was in advance of the remainder of the field. He said after entering the Home Straight on the first occasion he maintained his position on the inside of SPACED, however, the rider of that horse continued to look for the lead and as he was of the opinion the pace of the race at that stage was too quick, he approaching the winning post on the first occasion allowed SPACED to cross to the fence. He said DURABLE momentarily shifted out away from SPACED, however, as at that time SPACED maintained the tempo of the race he shifted DURABLE back to a position behind that runner. He said approaching the 1200 Metres ONE EYE JACK commenced to improve around his outside and also at this time SPACED began to steady the tempo in front. He said as a result of ONE EYE JACK improving its position, he was not able to shift away from the fence. He said as a consequence of this DURABLE continued to race behind SPACED along the Back Straight and he was not able to improve his position making the turn at the 600 Metres. He said shortly after this SPACED commenced to give ground which resulted in him being carried back in the field. He said on straightening he shifted DURABLE from behind SPACED, however, the horse failed to respond to his riding and gave ground. The Stewards do not intend on concluding this matter until they have had an opportunity to interview Mr Fownes who is currently out of town at the Sha Tin racemeeting next Sunday 14 January 2007. SILVER MARK and DURABLE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SILVER MARK and DURABLE after the race did not show any significant findings. FEBURO, GREEN IN BLUE and SPECIFIC SORCEROR were sent for sampling.
