Racing Incident Report

MULTI-WIN SPIRIT was withdrawn on 17.4.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (respiratory disease) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter DENDRANTHEMA LOVE (S Dye). Before being allowed to race again, MULTI-WIN SPIRIT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FEBURO bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. NATURAL ECHO and NOBLE BOSS were slow into stride. Apprentice H W Lai (SERIOUS PLAY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the winning post on the first occasion he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of KOWLOON TREASURE, causing that horse to be crowded for room, strike the heels of SERIOUS PLAY, blunder badly and almost fall. NOBLE BOSS, NATURAL ECHO and WE'RE BUDDIES, which were following, were checked and inconvenience was also caused to DANEPRINT and DENDRANTHEMA LOVE. Apprentice Lai was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 30 April 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Sunday 22 April 2007. In addition, Apprentice Lai was fined $20,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 2 further racedays. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, WE'RE BUDDIES became unbalanced when tight inside NOBLE BOSS. Also passing the winning post on the first occasion, CHALLENGER bumped the running rail and became unbalanced. At the 600 Metres, NEW TAMAR, which had been ridden along to maintain its position, was carried wider by SERIOUS PLAY which at this time shifted out from behind WISHING WELL. Passing the 400 Metres, DENDRANTHEMA LOVE was steadied away from the heels of NEW TAMAR which commenced to give ground. E Saint-Martin (NEW TAMAR) was not able to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said because of the anticipated manner in which the race would be run, it was decided to have NEW TAMAR ridden a little further forward than is usual. He did say tonight NEW TAMAR made an abnormal breathing noise in the run which is not unusual. NEW TAMAR was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of NEW TAMAR after the race did not show any significant findings. WINNING PATTERN, SERIOUS PLAY and WISHING WELL were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported KOWLOON TREASURE had bled from both nostrils.
