Racing Incident Report

DOUBLE FANTASY began awkwardly, then in the early and middle stages proved very difficult to settle and on a number of occasions got its head up. On jumping, STAR PRODIGY was bumped by OH GREAT which shifted in. Shortly after the start, DONGGUAN VICTORY was steadied when crowded for room between MOSHI MOSHI and DANSING FUN which shifted in. Prior to straightening, DOUBLE FANTASY was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SABRE AND GOLD and LA MERVEILLE. Near the 200 Metres, MOSHI MOSHI, which was commencing to give ground, was steadied when awkwardly placed between STAR PRODIGY and DENDRANTHEMA LOVE which shifted in. At the 150 Metres, WINNING PATTERN, which was giving ground, was steadied when crowded for room inside DONGGUAN VICTORY which itself was crowded for room inside DOUBLE FANTASY which got its head on the side and shifted in abruptly after being brushed by FRAMES DEPOT which when giving ground shifted in. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Throughout the race, MOSHI MOSHI travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, W M Lai (FRAMES DEPOT) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse with cover if possible in a forward position. He said he rode along in the early stages and followed DANSING FUN across as that horse shifted to the fence in the lead after passing the winning post on the first occasion. He said at the 1200 Metres WINNING PATTERN improved its position around the outside to take up the lead. He said because of the manner in which he had ridden FRAMES DEPOT in the early stages, the horse was over-racing and proving difficult to settle. He therefore felt it was in the best interest of FRAMES DEPOT to continue to endeavour to have the horse become more settled. He said near the 1000 Metres when he was racing about a neck behind DANSING FUN, that horse shifted away from the rail, resulting in him being carried to a three wide position. W M Lai was told where circumstances permit he should ride his mounts in a manner to prevent them being required to cover unnecessary ground. After this, FRAMES DEPOT continued to travel wide and without cover. WINNING PATTERN and FRAMES DEPOT were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WINNING PATTERN and FRAMES DEPOT after the race did not show any significant findings. DENDRANTHEMA LOVE and SABRE AND GOLD were sent for sampling.
