Racing Incident Report
WISDOM EXPRESS was withdrawn on 15.5.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (sore left fore fetlock) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SUPER SPECIAL (F Coetzee). Before being allowed to race again, WISDOM EXPRESS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Prior to the declaration of weighed-in, Apprentice C W Wong, the rider of WINNING CHAMP, and Mr C H Yip, the trainer of the horse, requested the Stewards view the official video of the start to ensure WINNING CHAMP had not had an unfair start. The evidence disclosed that as the start was effected, WINNING CHAMP became fractious and lunged forward, causing its gate to open momentarily before the others. As a result of this, WINNING CHAMP then sat back and began awkwardly, causing Apprentice Wong to become unbalanced and WINNING CHAMP to lose a considerable amount of ground. As the Stewards did not believe WINNING CHAMP had had an unfair start, the horse was deemed to be a runner and weighed-in was declared on the numbers as semaphored by the Judge. Before being allowed to race again, WINNING CHAMP will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. At the 250 Metres, SUPER SPECIAL was steadied and shifted to the outside of RACING SPIRIT into clear running. Some inconvenience was caused to BEAMING RIVER which was following and in turn was steadied and shifted to the inside of SUPER SPECIAL. When under pressure in the Straight, RACING SPIRIT hung in. Because of this, D Whyte changed his whip into his right hand after the 200 Metres. Throughout the race, A-TACK and FASTER FASTER travelled wide and without cover. WINNING CHAMP and MASTER YING were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, WINNING CHAMP was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had sustained abrasions to its muzzle. A veterinary inspection of MASTER YING after the race did not show any significant findings. OPTIC KING and SUPER SPECIAL were sent for sampling.
