Racing Incident Report

After weighing out to ride MY LANSON, A Delpech advised that he was not feeling well. The Stewards arranged for A Delpech to be immediately examined by the Club's doctor who advised A Delpech was not suitable to fulfil this engagement and all other remaining engagements. As such, M Nunes was substituted as the rider of MY LANSON. This substitution resulted in MY LANSON's arrival at the barrier being delayed. RAMPANT LION began awkwardly. From a wide barrier, PURE ALPHA was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Shortly after the start, EVER KING was checked when crowded for room between THE ONE which shifted out slightly and MY LANSON which was taken in by SOUTHERN EMPEROR which shifted in after beginning awkwardly. No action was taken. For a short distance after this, SOUTHERN EMPEROR and LIVERBIRD bumped on a number of occasions. Near the 1500 Metres, SUPER IDEAL blundered when being checked away from the heels of CHEEKY LAD which shifted out away from RAMPANT LION. SUPER IDEAL was then taken across behind runners to a position closer to the fence. Near the 600 Metres, SUPER IDEAL was momentarily crowded for room inside CHEEKY LAD which shifted in slightly. Approaching the 500 Metres, PURE ALPHA became unbalanced when crowded for room inside GEM POWER which shifted in after being steadied away from the heels of EVER KING. Shortly after the 400 Metres, PURE ALPHA was steadied away from the heels of DECAGONAL. For some distance approaching and passing the 300 Metres, SUPER IDEAL raced tight inside DECAGONAL when improving to the inside of that horse. Passing the 300 Metres, MY LANSON was steadied when disappointed for running between EVER KING and PURE ALPHA when PURE ALPHA was carried wider by DECAGONAL which shifted out abruptly. For a short distance after this, MY LANSON had difficulty obtaining clear running. Over the concluding stages, PURE ALPHA was carried wider by THE ONE which shifted out away from KAISER'S CHOIX which itself shifted out under pressure. Also over the concluding stages, KA KA SMART raced tight between CHEEKY LAD and MY LANSON which shifted out slightly. LIVERBIRD travelled wide and without cover throughout the race and in the Straight gave ground. Whilst the Stewards were of the opinion the riding out of Y T Cheng (PURE ALPHA), 6th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse's finishing position, he was nonetheless advised to ensure he rides his mounts out at least hands and heels to the line wherever possible. W M Lai stated the intention had been to ride DASH in a forward position as was the case last start. He stated he rode along in the early stages, however, was unable to cross KA KA SMART and after being steadied was then unable to obtain cover behind that horse. For this reason, DASH travelled wide and without cover throughout the race. LIVERBIRD and DASH were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of LIVERBIRD and DASH after the race did not show any significant findings. THE ONE, EVER KING and KAISER'S CHOIX were sent for sampling.
