Racing Incident Report

COME HO CHOI was withdrawn on 11.4.08 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (left fore tendon injury) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter ONE TOUCH (E Saint-Martin). Before being allowed to race again, COME HO CHOI will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MINGS' HERO began awkwardly and blundered. On jumping, TRIUMPHANT ECHO and BROWN BEAUTY bumped. GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY was slow to begin. From a wide barrier, ACCELERATOR was taken across behind runners. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, KA KA SMART was slow to muster speed, then near the 800 Metres was left racing wide and without cover. Approaching the turn at the 800 Metres, KEEN SPIRIT became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of ACCELERATOR after being bumped by SPARE A DIME. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of ACCELERATOR. For a considerable distance after the 800 Metres, ACCELERATOR, which had been proving difficult to settle, was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of runners in front. In the early part of the Straight, TRIUMPHANT ECHO had some difficulty obtaining clear running. For some distance after the 400 Metres, GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY was held up and unable to improve, then near the 200 Metres when again having difficulty obtaining clear running was steadied and shifted to the outside of ACCELERATOR. After the 200 Metres, SPARE A DIME was carried wider by KEEN SPIRIT which when being ridden out shifted ground while hanging out. After this, KEEN SPIRIT continued to shift ground while racing greenly. Over the concluding stages, ACCELERATOR hung in. Apprentice K T Yeung (KEEN SPIRIT) explained he had been instructed from the outside barrier to ride his mount quietly in the early stages in a position with cover. He said in addition he was asked to attempt to improve his position gradually in the middle stages if possible. He explained he was not able to improve after passing the 800 Metres as at this time he was following CHAMPION LAD and racing inside SPARE A DIME. After the race, O Doleuze (SPARE A DIME) reported his mount was making an abnormal breathing noise. SPARE A DIME was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. Following the race, SPARE A DIME was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SPARE A DIME will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ONE TOUCH and MINGS’ HERO were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported VITALITY had finished distressed. Before being allowed to race again, VITALITY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
