Racing Incident Report

At declaration time, D Beadman was declared as the rider of both LE ROSSIGNOL and MOONGLOW. It was established that D Beadman had a firm commitment to ride LE ROSSIGNOL. As such, the Stewards permitted Apprentice K L Chui to be substituted as the rider of MOONGLOW. For this declaration error, D Beadman was fined $2,000. After arriving at the Start, MY MELODY, which had been fractious during the preliminary and made contact with a running rail, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said MY MELODY was suitable to race. BREAKING POINT was slow to muster speed. From wide barriers, EXPEDIKID and MY MELODY were taken back in the early stages. After beginning awkwardly and stumbling, NATURAL FATCHOY took time to muster speed, then throughout the race travelled wide and without cover. In the early stages, MY MELODY proved difficult to settle. In the early and middle stages, SHINING DRAGON travelled ungenerously and hung out. For a considerable distance after straightening, LE ROSSIGNOL had difficulty obtaining clear running. For some distance approaching and passing the 300 Metres, LITTLE BIG BOY was held up and unable to obtain clear running. After the 200 Metres, ACCELERATOR, which was hanging in, shifted in and caused some inconvenience to MOONGLOW. After this, ACCELERATOR hung in and over the concluding stages raced tight outside MOONGLOW which at this time drifted wider. When questioned, O Doleuze (BREAKING POINT) said the intention had been to ride the horse in a rearward position similar to a recent barrier trial. He said BREAKING POINT was a little slow to begin today and then in accordance with his instructions he did not ride his mount along and travelled at the rear. He said after straightening he commenced to ride BREAKING POINT along and at the 350 Metres when struck with the whip BREAKING POINT commenced to hang in. He said he therefore rode BREAKING POINT along hands and heels and the horse commenced to make ground. He said at the 100 Metres he had to steady BREAKING POINT and shift out to continue going forward. He said BREAKING POINT closed the race off in a manner which suggested it will be better suited racing over a distance of further than the 1400 Metres of today’s race. O Doleuze was told his explanation would be reported. SHINING DRAGON was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SHINING DRAGON after the race did not show any significant findings. MINGS’ HERO and KING FAY FAY were sent for sampling.
