Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, WHAT A THRILL became fractious, lunged forward and broke open the front gates of its stall. WHAT A THRILL was quickly reined in and returned to the Start where it was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said it was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, WHAT A THRILL will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. TOP SPEED began awkwardly and lost ground. FASTER FASTER was slow into stride. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, ACTUARIAL TALENT was racing wide and without cover and was inclined to hang out. In the middle stages, WHAT A THRILL raced ungenerously and on a number of occasions became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of MOUNT SURPLUS. At the 250 Metres, TOP SPEED was steadied away from the heels of ACTUARIAL TALENT. After the 200 Metres, TELECOM EMPEROR was steadied away from the heels of CLASSIC HORSE which shifted in. At the 150 Metres, PALIO KING was steadied when disappointed for running between MOUNT SURPLUS and WINNING AHEAD which when giving ground was carried in slightly by LUCKY WORLD which shifted away from CLASSIC HORSE which shifted ground while hanging in. No action was taken. In the Straight, CLASSIC HORSE hung in and proved difficult to ride. G Mossé (PALIO KING) said it was his intention to ride his mount behind midfield in the same manner in which it was successful at its most recent start. He said had PALIO KING not been disappointed for running at the 150 Metres, in his opinion the horse would have finished in the placings. When questioned regarding the improved performance of SHINING DRAGON, Trainer Y S Tsui said he had been confident the horse would perform well at its most recent start which was over 1400 Metres. He said on that occasion the performance of SHINING DRAGON disappointed him. He said he reviewed the running of that race and he believed the pacing of the second quarter of the race was too quick and as a consequence SHINING DRAGON gave ground in the Straight. He did point out in that race SHINING DRAGON travelled outside NEW ASIA FORWARD in the run and both horses finished at the rear of the field. He said today he engaged a 10 lb claiming apprentice to give SHINING DRAGON weight relief and in his opinion the horse was better suited by the tempo of the race and accordingly its performance reflected this. LUCKY WORLD was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, LUCKY WORLD was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had bled from both nostrils. SHINING DRAGON and CLASSIC HORSE were sent for sampling.
