Racing Incident Report
CLEAN SWEEP was withdrawn on 8.12.08 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter TOP HONOR. Before being allowed to race again, CLEAN SWEEP will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. As the start was effected, FLYING TAMARI, which was fractious in its stall, reared and as a consequence lost a considerable amount of ground. At the 1600 Metres, OPERATION SECRET was steadied when crowded for room between NOBLE CONQUEROR and EYSHAL (D Beadman) which shifted in. D Beadman was told to exercise care. At the 1500 Metres, EXPRESS WIN was steadied away from the heels of POWER DRIFTER which in turn was steadied away from the heels of WEI HAI INVINCIBLE which shifted in when barely clear. On entering the Back Straight, AGILITY was checked to avoid the heels of JAMESINA which when proving difficult to settle was checked to avoid the heels of OPERATION SECRET. After this, JAMESINA continued to prove difficult to settle until shifting out at the 700 Metres to improve its position. NOBLE CONQUEROR hung in making the turn at the 600 Metres. C K Tong (EXPRESS WIN) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 600 Metres he shifted his mount out when not clear of OPERATION SECRET, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. C K Tong was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Friday 2 January 2009 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Saturday 20 December 2008. Shortly after the 400 Metres, AGILITY broke down and was eased out of the race. Approaching the 100 Metres, WEI HAI INVINCIBLE, which was giving ground, was steadied when crowded for room between JAMESINA and FAT DRAGON which was carried in slightly by NOBLE CONQUEROR which shifted ground while hanging. No action was taken. At the 50 Metres, FAT DRAGON, which was giving ground, was steadied when awkwardly placed between JAMESINA and NOBLE CONQUEROR. C K Tong (EXPRESS WIN), which was racing over 1800 Metres for the first time in Hong Kong tonight, explained he had been instructed to ride his mount in a forward position as is usual, however, if other runners appeared keen to lead, he should not make use of his mount to maintain the lead. He said he went forward on EXPRESS WIN in the early stages and when it became apparent to him that WEI HAI INVINCIBLE and POWER DRIFTER were being ridden to go forward and lead, he elected to allow those runners to cross and as a consequence he ended up racing in a position slightly forward of midfield. EYSHAL and JAMESINA were sent for sampling.
