Racing Incident Report

REWARDING STAR was a little slow to begin. ABOVE ALL, which was standing with its head turned to the left, was slow to begin and then from a wide barrier was taken back. Near the 1200 Metres, CENTURY SUPER STAR, which was being ridden along to make up ground after being taken back in the early stages, was checked when disappointed for running between SUPER GENKI which shifted in slightly and ABOVE ALL which when proving difficult to settle shifted out slightly. No action was taken. After this, ABOVE ALL continued to prove difficult to settle, then was checked away from the heels of MINGS’ HERO. Near the 1100 Metres, WINBO, which despite being ridden along in the early stages, failed to muster speed, got its head up and shifted out abruptly when being checked away from the heels of NEW CHAPTER whilst proving difficult to settle. As a consequence, SUPER GENKI was hampered and carried wider. After this, SUPER GENKI hung out and travelled wide and without cover and WINBO also travelled wide and without cover. At the 300 Metres, MINGS’ HERO, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, was steadied and shifted to the inside of GOLDEN TREASURE. After this, MINGS’ HERO did not obtain clear running for the remainder of the race and was not properly tested. For a considerable distance approaching the 200 Metres, REWARDING STAR was held up and unable to obtain clear running. At the 100 Metres, GOLDEN TREASURE, which was commencing to give ground, was steadied away from the heels of MINGS’ HERO. Over the concluding stages, ABOVE ALL hung in and proved difficult to ride. Throughout the race, GOLDEN TREASURE travelled wide and without cover. M Du Plessis (MERIDIAN PRIDE) explained the intention had been to ride the horse in the box seat. He said MERIDIAN PRIDE began awkwardly and then despite being ridden along took time to muster which allowed CAGA BOY to cross from his outside. He said when this occurred he noticed REWARDING STAR being hard ridden to improve its position on his inside, he therefore elected to allow that runner to go forward of him, then shifted to the fence which resulted in him travelling further back than intended. He said because of the manner in which the race was run, a number of horses commenced to improve their positions around the outside of the field prior to straightening and as a consequence he was in a rearward position turning into the Home Straight. He said for the majority of the Home Straight MERIDIAN PRIDE did not obtain clear running and because of this he was not able to fully test his mount. He said whilst MERIDIAN PRIDE was well beaten, in his opinion the horse’s performance in the circumstances was explainable. MERIDIAN PRIDE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, MERIDIAN PRIDE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to have an epiglottic entrapment. NEW CHAPTER and SUPER GENKI were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, NEW CHAPTER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, NEW CHAPTER will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of SUPER GENKI after the race did not show any significant findings. ABOVE ALL, REWARDING STAR and BEST POWER were sent for sampling.
