Racing Incident Report

OCEAN PRINCE was withdrawn on 2.6.09 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (sore right fore tendon with wound) and was replaced by first Standby Declared Starter TOY STORY. FORTUNE HAVEN was also withdrawn on 2.6.09 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (substantial mucopus on scoping after track work) and was replaced by second Standby Declared Starter APPRECIATION (D Beadman). Before being allowed to race again, OCEAN PRINCE and FORTUNE HAVEN will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Whilst parading behind the barriers, NILOMETER lost its right front plate. NILOMETER was replated and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. When the gates opened, BABY WAVE bounded in the air and lost ground. HAPPY SEVEN was slow to begin. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, GOOD GAINS got its head up. After this, GOOD GAINS continued to race ungenerously with its head up, near the 1300 Metres after being bumped by HAPPY AMBASSADOR shifted out abruptly and was severely checked to avoid the heels of BEAUTIFUL CHOICE. GOOD GAINS continued to race ungenerously for a considerable distance after this, then in the Straight gave ground and finished tailed out. The Stewards considered the racing manners of GOOD GAINS to be unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, GOOD GAINS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial around a bend. Near the 1100 Metres, BABY WAVE was steadied away from the heels of HAPPY AMBASSADOR. For the majority of the race, MELLIFLUOUS hung in. The performance of HAPPY SEVEN, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, HAPPY SEVEN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. W C Marwing (TOY STORY) explained from a wide barrier he had been asked to ride his mount in front of midfield.  He said in accordance with those instructions he went forward in the early stages in an endeavour to obtain a position with cover slightly in front of midfield. He said making the first turn GOOD GAINS which was racing to his inside shifted out, causing him to be carried wider on the track. He said because of this after the 1200 Metres he went forward of GOOD GAINS to prevent being further hampered by that runner. He said however he was not able to obtain cover for the remainder of the race and as a consequence TOY STORY failed to finish the race off. GOOD GAINS, APPRECIATION and TOY STORY were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GOOD GAINS, APPRECIATION and TOY STORY after the race did not show any significant findings. DUMBARTON ROCK and ISTIDE were sent for sampling. <4/6/2009 Additional Veterinary Reports> TOY STORY, which performed poorly, was examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison. He said at that time there were no significant findings. TOY STORY was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D E Ferraris this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have post-race stress. Before being allowed to race again, TOY STORY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
