Racing Incident Report

ALL TIME HIGH was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, CAGA SPIRIT was steadied when crowded for room between RAISING SUN and K-JACK which shifted out. Passing the 600 Metres, ALL TIME HIGH bumped the hindquarters of SUPER GENERAL which shifted in slightly, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. Passing the 200 Metres, RAISING SUN (Y T Cheng) shifted in under pressure. Then near the 100 Metres, ALL TIME HIGH, which was commencing to close off the race, was checked away from the heels of RAISING SUN which at this time commenced to give ground. In doing so, ALL TIME HIGH shifted out, resulting in KING CREOLE being checked when crowded for room between that horse and SUPER GENERAL. Y T Cheng was reprimanded and advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount far sooner than he did on this occasion. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of K-JACK, Apprentice K C Leung stated that he had been instructed to obtain the box seat on the horse if possible. He said after obtaining a position behind the leader, DESTINY’S CHILD passing the 900 Metres, he was obliged to steady away from the heels of that horse and shift out when DESTINY’S CHILD steadied the tempo. He said after this K-JACK came off the bit and did not travel as it had earlier in the race. He said passing the 700 Metres when RAISING SUN improved to race to his outside, he had intended to maintain the position to the inside of that horse, however, K-JACK was not travelling well enough to consolidate its position inside RAISING SUN. He said passing the 600 Metres he commenced to ride K-JACK along, the horse lay out rounding the Home Turn and despite his riding in the early part of the Straight weakened badly. A veterinary inspection of K-JACK after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of K-JACK, one of the favoured runners in tonight’s race, was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, K-JACK will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DESTINY’S CHILD and CAGA SPIRIT were sent for sampling.
