Racing Incident Report

CHEER and BUCCANEER were slow to begin. CHAMPION MOUNT began awkwardly. SUPER GENKI and KING ON EARTH bumped at the start. From the outside barrier, BLESSING was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Approaching the 1500 Metres, NORTH HILL raced in restricted room between GIVE WELL and LET ME HANDLE IT. Near the 800 Metres, BLESSING was steadied when crowded for room between TELECOM SUPER STAR and SUPER GENKI. Approaching the 200 Metres, LUNAR REFLECTIONS shifted out, resulting in LET ME HANDLE IT being inconvenienced. Passing the 100 Metres, LET ME HANDLE IT shifted in under pressure towards LUNAR REFLECTIONS. This resulted in LET ME HANDLE IT being struck over the nose by the whip of H W Lai (LUNAR REFLECTIONS) on two occasions. In the vicinity to the winning post, LET ME HANDLE IT and LUNAR REFLECTIONS brushed. Throughout the race, KING ON EARTH travelled wide and without cover. O Doleuze (NORTH HILL) explained that rounding the Home Turn his mount got its head on the side and was inclined to shift out. He said in an endeavour to have NORTH HILL hold its position, he applied additional pressure to the right rein which resulted in his right elbow being extended away from his body. He said because of this his right elbow was positioned close to the body of Apprentice C Y Ho, the rider of LET ME HANDLE IT, which itself shifted out at this time and made contact with NORTH HILL. O Doleuze was reminded of the requirement not to extend his elbow away from his body and to avoid making contact with other riders wherever possible. When questioned, S K Sit (TELECOM SUPER STAR) advised that as the horse was stepping up to 1600 Metres today, he was instructed to ride it behind midfield in an endeavour to ensure that it was able to see out the distance. A veterinary inspection of CHAMPION MOUNT and CHEER after the race did not show any significant findings. LUNAR REFLECTIONS and LET ME HANDLE IT were sent for sampling.
