Racing Incident Report

As the start was effected, OPEN SESAME became very fractious and put its head down, resulting in its rider, M Chadwick, becoming badly unbalanced in the saddle. Because of this, OPEN SESAME lost a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, OPEN SESAME will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. From the outside barrier, VERY WELL was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, I SMELL MONEY jumped a shadow on the track and became very unbalanced. Passing the 1300 Metres, VERY WELL got its head up when momentarily racing in restricted room inside MASTER GUNNER. For some distance after this, VERY WELL continued to prove difficult to settle. For some distance rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, MASTER GUNNER and SURVEY SURVEY raced tight as SURVEY SURVEY shifted out to obtain clear running. At the entrance to the Straight, BILLION GAINS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of OTTIMO which was commencing to give ground. Close to the finishing line, SURVEY SURVEY was directed out away from the heels of LUNAR REFLECTIONS which shifted out slightly. OPEN SESAME, which was racing to the outside of SURVEY SURVEY, was inconvenienced in consequence. When questioned, B Doyle stated that he had been instructed if possible to shift VERY WELL to the outside of runners in the Home Straight to make its final run. He said rounding the Home Turn he commenced to shift out away from the inside to comply with his instructions, however, shortly after entering the Straight he was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MASTER GUNNER which at that time was shifting out with SURVEY SURVEY. He said at the same time OPEN SESAME improved its position to the outside of VERY WELL, resulting in VERY WELL being disappointed for running and not being able to shift out as had been hoped. He added he persisted to attempt a run to the outside of MASTER GUNNER, however, when this run did not materialize, he shifted VERY WELL to the inside of SURVEY SURVEY near the 200 Metres. He said after this VERY WELL finished off the race well. B Doyle was advised that his explanation would be reported, however, he was to ensure that wherever possible he affords his mounts clear and unimpeded running and if he is not able to comply with his instructions, he must as soon as possible make an alternate decision. A veterinary inspection of OTTIMO after the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, OTTIMO will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SLEEP WELL and I SMELL MONEY were sent for sampling.
