Racing Incident Report

Shortly after the start, WHITE JADE was crowded for room between HORSE GALORE and BLAZE KING which was taken in by FLYING COLOURS (Apprentice C Y Ho). Apprentice Ho was severely reprimanded and advised that whilst he had shifted back out and relieved the pressure to horses on his inside, he must exercise more care in similar circumstances. In this incident, HORSE GALORE became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by WHITE JADE. Near the 150 Metres, AT MOMENT IN TIME was shifted to the inside of FINAL ANSWER to continue improving. Apprentice C Y Ho reported that his saddle shifted back during the race. Trainer Y S Tsui explained that as TAILWIND was having its first start at Happy Valley tonight, he instructed Y T Cheng to take the horse across behind runners rather than have it race wide and without cover if it was not able to show sufficient speed to cross horses to its inside which had previously shown good early speed. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of TAI SING YEH, G Mossé said that although TAI SING YEH was obliged to race three wide in the early stages, the horse travelled satisfactorily when racing with cover behind FLYING COLOURS. He said however that when FLYING COLOURS was able to shift in to a two wide position after the 800 Metres, TAI SING YEH immediately came under pressure and as far out as 700 Metres he had concerns over the manner in which TAI SING YEH was travelling. He said he placed the horse under pressure after the 600 Metres to maintain its position and whilst TAI SING YEH initially responded to his riding, the horse soon came under pressure in the Straight and was then disappointing in the manner in which it weakened out of the race. Trainer R Gibson stated that he was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of TAI SING YEH. He said the horse had pleased him in the lead up to tonight’s race and accordingly was expected to perform well. A veterinary inspection of TAI SING YEH after the race did not show any significant findings other than the horse had sustained a small wound to the left hind fetlock. TAI SING YEH, AT MOMENT IN TIME and LET ME FIGHT were sent for sampling.
