Racing Incident Report

REAL DRAGON was withdrawn on 13.4.12 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter METREVELLI. Before being allowed to race again, REAL DRAGON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SPEEDY WARRIOR was slow to begin. From the outside barrier, LUCKY ARMY was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, TELECOM NEW STAR failed to muster speed. Approaching the 1300 Metres, TELECOM NEW STAR was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MISTER HORSE. Near the 550 Metres, NOBLE TWINS momentarily raced tight between TELECOM NEW STAR and GOOD LOOKING WATCH, both of which shifted ground slightly. Near the 450 Metres, CLASSA and GOOD LOOKING WATCH bumped. Throughout the race, GRAND GENERAL travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CLASSA, H W Lai stated that he had been riding the horse in some of its track work leading up to today’s race and, in his opinion, that work was good. He said after obtaining a good position in the early and middle stages, he shifted CLASSA out at the 800 Metres in an attempt to improve its position to be racing behind GRAND GENERAL which itself was improving its position at this time. He said near the 500 Metres GRAND GENERAL commenced to give ground and CLASSA was awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse before being able to be shifted to the outside of the heels of GRAND GENERAL approaching the 400 Metres. He said at this time CLASSA lost momentum and after this did not respond to his riding. Trainer L Ho stated that, in his opinion, today’s performance could be attributed to the fact that GRAND GENERAL was not able to take CLASSA into the race. He said CLASSA appreciates being able to build up momentum in its races and when CLASSA was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GRAND GENERAL after the 500 Metres, the horse was then not able to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of CLASSA after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that GRAND GENERAL had sustained a superficial wound to the right hind. MISTER HORSE, LUCKY ARMY and KINGSTON ELITE were sent for sampling.
