Racing Incident Report

After being loaded, SILENT DEMAND became fractious and reared, resulting in its rider, A Suborics, being dislodged. SILENT DEMAND was removed from the stalls and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, SILENT DEMAND will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. KHARU began awkwardly. From the outside barriers, DIAMOND RAINBOW and RACING LEGEND were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Shortly after the start, MAKE IT was bumped by SUPER BROTHER which shifted in. After the 1100 Metres, KHARU got its head on the side, shifted out and bumped SUPER BROTHER. Near the 900 Metres, WINSOME got its head on the side and shifted in and away from SURFER BOY and in doing so made contact with URBAN DANCER, causing both URBAN DANCER and WINSOME to become unbalanced. KHARU, which was following URBAN DANCER, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of that horse in consequence. After the 800 Metres, MAKE IT was awkwardly placed inside the heels of BRILLIANT ONE. Passing the 100 Metres, SURFER BOY got its head on the side, shifted out and brushed WELL DONE. After this, WELL DONE shifted in, resulting in SURFER BOY being inconvenienced. When questioned, B Prebble stated that at the 900 Metres WINSOME was reluctant to race inside SURFER BOY and became unbalanced after making contact with URBAN DANCER. He said after the 800 Metres when WELL DONE improved to the outside of WINSOME, he considered riding his mount along to hold that horse wide, however, he felt that he would have had to make some use of WINSOME to have done so. He said when WELL DONE was racing to the outside of WINSOME, the horse again wanted to get its head on the side and shift in from that horse. He said he therefore allowed WELL DONE to cross WINSOME and he remained racing behind that horse. He said after the 500 Metres WINSOME came under pressure to maintain its position. He added rounding the Home Turn he shifted WINSOME to the outside of WELL DONE, however, the horse, despite being ridden along, was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off the race. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that SILENT DEMAND had sustained a superficial wound to the right hind coronary band and a small wound near the corner of the left side of the mouth. A veterinary inspection of KHARU and VICTORY GENERAL after the race did not show any significant findings. WINSOME, WELL DONE and SURFER BOY were sent for sampling.
