Racing Incident Report

BUNDLE OF JOY was withdrawn on 13.4.13 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (blood abnormality) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter MI SAVVY (T Clark). Before being allowed to race again, BUNDLE OF JOY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
HANDSOME HANDSOME shifted out at the start and bumped DYNAMIC VOYAGE which had begun awkwardly. DYNAMIC VOYAGE then shifted out and bumped RED COURAGE, causing that horse to become unbalanced.
MI SAVVY shifted out abruptly at the start, resulting in MAKE IT being hampered.
From the outside barrier, FLYING IN was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.
In the early and middle stages, MR GINGER travelled wide and without cover and after the 800 Metres was ridden into a more forward position outside the leader to obtain a position closer to the rail.
Making the turn after the 1000 Metres, DYNAMIC VOYAGE proved very difficult to settle, got its head on the side and was checked after hanging out across the heels of HANDSOME HANDSOME. After this, DYNAMIC VOYAGE continued to prove very difficult to settle and got its head up near the 900 Metres when momentarily racing in restricted room inside HANDSOME HANDSOME which got its head on the side and shifted in. Before being allowed to race again, DYNAMIC VOYAGE will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend.
Also making the turn after the 1000 Metres, GREAT SPIRIT got its head on the side and shifted out towards the heels of MI SAVVY. After this, GREAT SPIRIT got its head up on a number of occasions when proving difficult to settle and awkwardly placed inside the heels of MI SAVVY.
Making the turn after the 1000 Metres, SKY FAR was awkwardly placed outside the heels of RED COURAGE.
GREAT SPIRIT had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and near the 300 Metres was shifted to the outside of PROLIFIC CHAMPION into clear running.
In the Straight, SKY FAR got its head on the side and shifted ground outwards under pressure.
When questioned, W M Lai stated that he had been instructed to ride RED COURAGE in about the 4th or 5th position if possible. He said after beginning only fairly, RED COURAGE was bumped by DYNAMIC VOYAGE to his inside. He said after this DYNAMIC VOYAGE was ridden along aggressively to hold its position and he felt that had he have ridden RED COURAGE to obtain a more forward position, the horse would be left racing wide, therefore he elected, passing the 1100 Metres, to shift RED COURAGE in and obtain a position with cover behind HANDSOME HANDSOME, however, this resulted in the horse racing slightly further back in the field than had been intended.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MI SAVVY, T Clark stated that his mount travelled on and off the bridle until about the 700 Metres at which point the horse commenced to travel strongly. He said MI SAVVY improved to be racing close to the heels of the eventual winner, THE PRINCE, rounding the Home Turn and he expected the horse to quicken when placed under pressure in the Straight. He said at the entrance to the Straight he shifted MI SAVVY out to position the horse to improve between THE PRINCE and MR GINGER, however, MI SAVVY was not travelling well enough to improve with THE PRINCE when that horse quickened near the 300 Metres. He said after this MI SAVVY was disappointing in the manner in which it weakened over the concluding stages when continuing to be placed under pressure. A veterinary inspection of MI SAVVY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of DYNAMIC VOYAGE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of MAKE IT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped.
MR GINGER, THE PRINCE and PROLIFIC CHAMPION were sent for sampling.
<15/4/2013 Additional Veterinary Report> DYNAMIC VOYAGE, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. DYNAMIC VOYAGE was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer K W Lui this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, DYNAMIC VOYAGE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
