Racing Incident Report
CIRCUIT FORTUNE was slow to begin.
A short distance after the start, SPARKLING SWORD shifted in after bumping PERFECT CHARMING and in doing so crowded TEOFILO CALVA onto FUNNY FORTUNE, causing TEOFILO CALVA to become unbalanced.
Making the turn approaching the 800 Metres, SPARKLING SWORD raced greenly and became unbalanced of its own accord after shifting in abruptly towards the running rail. After this, SPARKLING SWORD continued to race greenly and despite being ridden along was reluctant to maintain its position inside GOOD YIELD and near the 700 Metres again became unbalanced after brushing the running rail.
In the early part of the Straight, PERFECT CHARMING hung in, resulting in its rider, Y T Cheng, changing his whip into his right hand passing the 400 Metres. After this, PERFECT CHARMING shifted ground on a number of occasions under pressure in the Straight.
Over the final 200 Metres, DOMINEER lay in under pressure.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of YOU READ MY MIND, T Berry stated that the horse did not travel as comfortably in today’s race as it did at its most recent start when successful. He said the horse had to be asked for an effort to clear DOMINEER to its inside making the first turn to race outside the leader SPEEDY SANDY and avoid racing three wide without cover. He said last start the horse travelled strongly throughout the race and he did not expect to have to make use of YOU READ MY MIND in the early stages based on how the horse felt at the most recent start. He said after crossing DOMINEER, YOU READ MY MIND travelled only fairly and then when placed under pressure in the Straight got its head on the side and lay in. He added he was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of YOU READ MY MIND. A veterinary inspection of YOU READ MY MIND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
